What Is The Difference Between Jelly and Jam? (Great Smoky Mountains National Park)

Brian, Emily and myself left Chapel Hill in the morning and stopped in Asheville to have lunch with Rebecca. If you don't already know Rebecca is awesome and tough as shit. (See previous post.)

We walked up these stairs only to find out that we were heading north instead of south. Oops, my bad.

Brian has his game face on so we are ready to begin.

The first day was a short but steep hike to Davenport Gap Shelter. Emily has a nice back.

Sometime around 11pm these two jokers finally show up. Brennan and Laura, welcome to the Smokies!

Foot fetish.

Our second day was a pretty stout 13.8 miles of uphill goodness. The leaves were peaking so it was easy to get distracted as you are cursing the next big hill.

The moss whispers sweet nothings into my ear. Oh baby, you know what time it is. It''s business time.

Lunch at Cosby Knob Shelter.

I don't think that smile left Emily's face the whole trip. For a first time backpacker she rocked the house! Thanks for being a trooper Em!

This is so cute I almost throw up in my mouth.

Brennan and I had a camera duel. After this photo I had to bury his body in the hills.

Team High Five!

Time to refuel.

We finished another 13 mile day at Icewater Shelter. Really pretty views.

From our shelter it was a short jump over to Charlie's Bunion where we had a pose off.

Our goal was to eat all of our food before the end of the trip. Dinner often consisted of three courses of yumminess.

It dipped into the low 30's that night with heavy winds but we slept fine in the shelter.

This was the view of the morning sunrise...from our sleeping bags. All you had to do was turn your head to the right and this was your view. (Thanks for the tip Jim!)

I'm a good dancer and ya'll know it!

The hike out on day 4 was a short one. Brian is down with Stripes for life! (see previous posts)

At Newfound Gap waiting for our ride back to our cars.

I Scarred Because I'm Tough As Shit (Asheville, NC)

Drove to the western part of NC to visit my friend Rebecca. I got bored driving so I started taking pictures. Probably not the safest move.

Rebecca likes to go mountain bike riding. The bike won the latest round.

For when Rebecca is ready to start nursing school.

Bedtime story. We are going on a bear hunt and we are going to catch a big one. (Pirate the dog enjoys stories too.)

The turkeys know Thanksgiving is around the corner so they are on the run. We got your back.

We went on a hike to find the summer home built by some doctor in 1905. Not sure what this is but we found the potato house, the pool and where the tennis courts where.

Trying to look like the outdoorsman I claim to be.

Every city tries to be Philadelphia. Weak Liberity Bell imitation.

Then it was time for a vegan feast. (R to L tofu avacado sandwich with chips, chocolate cake with peanut butter icing, side of baked tofu, apple carmel custard, and tofu curry with veggies over brown rice.)

Someone thought that this would be the ideal spot for a large iron. The handle was begging to be jumped through.

Oh yeah, Rebecca is a twin.

Stripes Gooooood, Polka Dots Baaaaadd.

The game plan was to wear lots of stripes and ride bikes to bars. On the way we tried to convert other stripe-minded individuals to join our gang. We also heckled the hell out of people not wearing stripes. Surprisingly no one tried to beat us up.
Rob, Mariya, and I prepare for battle.

Ed won the prize for wearing the most stripes. Yes, his tights have stripes on them. And yes, he is wearing tights.

This is the crew. We picked up three more gang members on the way. STRIPES!!!!!

So this actually happened! My darts partner rocks so hard that she can spilts darts Robin Hood style. Don't mess suckas!

Some would call Ed a "camera whore". I just call him a whore.

Catherine is an A+ gal but tonight she gets an F for not wearing stripes. (PS. Boys, she is single and is much cuter than this picture shows.)

Everything tastes better while wearing stripes.

This is what time I had to leave my house the next morning to play golf. That means I woke up 30 minutes before that. Striped hangovers are the worst.

"Our shots were not as long as our shadows." I think someone famous said that.
Notice the flag is wearing stripes as well. STRIPES!
